Self-hosting a support desk in Docker: what to prepare before the first install

Self-hosting sounds like a deployment detail until the day you need it: the customer contract that says data stays in your infrastructure, or the policy that rules out a third-party processor.

Before running the first container, four things are worth deciding:

  1. The host. A small VM is enough for a team of three; size the disk for attachments and history.
  2. Backups. A database backup you have never restored is not a backup. Test one.
  3. TLS and the domain. Support traffic includes customer records; plain HTTP is not an option.
  4. Upgrades. Know how you will apply the next version before you need to.

Onsites AI is offered cloud or self-hosted with the same product behind both, so the choice is about where the data lives rather than which features you give up.
